According to the 1880 Allerton, Wayne County, Iowa census, a cousin of Daniel's was living with the family. He was Thomas Shepherd, b. 1862 in Iowa and was a laborer. His parents were both born in Kentucky. His brother, William, was living with Daniel's father.
